AUSABLE — New York State Police responded to a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 87 at approximately 5:16 p.m. June 27.
Upon arrival, troopers observed damaged guidewires and debris from the vehicle involved in the incident.
They interviewed an uninvolved witness who provided detailed information regarding what had happened.
The troopers were searching for a gray 1998 Honda Accord.
They eventually located the vehicle traveling on State Route 22 in the town of Willisboro and initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, they interviewed the driver, identified as Luke D. Whitehill, a 27-year-old resident of Willisboro.
While speaking with Whitehill, troopers noticed signs of impairment.
They administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which he failed.
Whitehill was arrested and taken to SP Plattsburgh, where he provided a breath sample showing a blood alcohol concentration of 0.16%.
He was issued traffic tickets for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failing to obey a traffic control device, and unsafe lane changing.
These tickets are returnable to the Town of Ausable Court at a later date in July.
Additionally, Whitehill was charged with driving while intoxicated and released on an appearance ticket, which is also returnable to the Town of Willisboro at a later date in July.
