SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers seized a stolen loaded firearm Monday evening while arresting a 25-year-old man during a traffic stop.

Cesar Molina-Torres of Springfield was arrested at approximately 7:45 p.m. June 30 on the 500 block of State Street.

Officers were patrolling the area of State Street and St. James Avenue around 7:35 p.m. when they observed a crowd loitering outside a business.

While advising the group they could not loiter in front of the business, officers observed two individuals quickly get into a vehicle and drive away.

Officers discovered the vehicle’s registration was cancelled and conducted a traffic stop.

Due to the car being unregistered, officers had the driver and passenger exit the vehicle so it could be towed.

During a pat frisk of Molina-Torres, officers felt what turned out to be a firearm in his waistband.

Officers removed the loaded firearm, which was reported stolen out of Connecticut.

Molina-Torres is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card and receiving stolen property less than $1,200.
