Niskayuna woman arrested on drug charges after Taconic State Parkway traffic stop

DUTCHESS COUNTY — A 41-year-old Niskayuna woman was arrested Monday after New York State Police discovered approximately 1,436 grams of cocaine in her vehicle during a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway.

Members of the New York State Police Troop K Community Stabilization Unit observed a Ford sedan traveling northbound on the parkway in violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law on June 30.

The driver and sole occupant was identified as Tamar W. Knight.

State Police K9 Wild conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics.

A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the cocaine concealed in the trunk.

During the search, Knight attempted to flee on foot but was immediately apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.

Knight was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree, a Class A-I felony; Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree with Intent to Sell, a Class B felony; and Obstruction of Governmental Administration, a Class A misdemeanor.

Knight was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
