BOSTON — Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Tyrone Worrell, 18, of Boston, on multiple firearm and drug offenses following a traffic stop Monday evening.

Officers were on patrol in the area of West Cottage Street towards Judson Street at about 7:14 p.m. when they observed a vehicle make an abrupt right turn onto Judson Street without slowing down.

The vehicle also had excessive window tint, according to police.

Officers positioned their cruiser behind the vehicle and observed it stop in the area of 37 Julian Street.

Officers then activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

Contact was made with the operator of the vehicle, and officers observed him open the driver’s side door as the window did not operate.

The operator was advised to roll down the remaining windows as the tint prevented officers from seeing inside.

The front seat passenger was observed not wearing his seatbelt and his identification was requested.

As officers spoke with the occupants, they observed a tray on top of the center console with marijuana remnants on it.

Officers could also see a cross-body-style bag inside the vehicle, which appeared to be full of unknown contents.

After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle.

Officers conducted a pat frisk and located a firearm from inside the bag.

Both suspects were placed into handcuffs, and officers recovered THC paraphernalia as well.

Detectives responded to the scene and processed the firearm, which was determined to be a ghost gun with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine.

A further search of the vehicle revealed 113 THC vaporizer cartridges, seven plastic bags of THC edible gummies, one plastic bag of marijuana, and a digital scale.

Worrell is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
