RUSSIA — State Police and the Poland Fire Department were dispatched to a residence on Rose Valley Road in the town of Russia, Herkimer County, for a reported structure fire on June 30 at 7:45 a.m.
On arrival, firefighters found a two-story residence fully engulfed in fire.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and during overhaul, remains of a human body were found.
State Police Investigators are working with Investigators from New York State Fire to determine the origin and cause.
The identity of the victim is being held pending forensic confirmation and notification of next of kin.
