Westford man arrested for DUI after ATV crash injures passenger

WESTFORD — Vermont State Police arrested a 49-year-old man for driving under the influence after an ATV crash that injured his passenger on June 29.

Reggie Spiller of Westford was operating a 2017 Polaris RZR on Plains Road at approximately 6:52 p.m. when he lost control while attempting to turn into a driveway near Audry Lane.

The ATV overturned in the roadway, injuring passenger Justin Gokey, 47, of Westford.

Gokey was transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment of apparent non-life threatening injuries.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt or helmet at the time of the crash.

Troopers detected indicators of impairment while speaking with Spiller and arrested him on suspicion of DUI.

Spiller was transported to the Williston Barracks for processing and later released with a citation.

He is scheduled to appear at Chittenden County Superior Court on July 17 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge of DUI.

The crash occurred on a dirt and gravel road under clear weather conditions.

Vermont State Police, Fairfax Rescue and Westford Fire Department responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
