WATERVLIET — A 47-year-old Latham man has been charged with rape and other felonies after police say he sexually assaulted a woman in the presence of a child while performing maintenance work.
Mohammad Ansar was arrested following an investigation into a sexual assault reported to Watervliet Police on June 26 at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Police determined that Ansar sexually assaulted an adult female in the presence of a child while at the property to complete maintenance work.
Ansar has been charged with rape in the first degree, a class B felony, burglary in the second degree, a class C felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
He was arraigned in Watervliet City Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
“The actions committed in this case are nothing short of reprehensible,” said Watervliet Police Chief William M Rice.
“This individual not only violated an innocent woman in the most horrific way but did so in the presence of a child, demonstrating a disgusting level of depravity and a complete disregard for human decency.”
Rice said Ansar showed no remorse throughout the investigation.
“His actions are vile and show a blatant disregard for the basic standards of decency, morality, and the law,” Rice said.
