WATERVLIET — A Troy man has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison for selling drugs that resulted in the deaths of two men.

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced Friday that David Mathes, 28, was sentenced by Judge Thomas Marcelle after pleading guilty to two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree.

Mathes will serve 12 years followed by three years of post-release supervision.

Assistant District Attorney Erin LaValley of the Street Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.

The investigation was launched in summer 2024 following two overdose deaths over a four-month span.

Watervliet Police detectives linked the fatal drug sales to Mathes, leading to his arrest and prosecution.

The Watervliet Police Department worked with the Albany County District Attorney’s office throughout the case.
