SPRINGFIELD — A 31-year-old North Springfield man has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs following a May 20 crash in a middle school parking lot.

Daniel Davis was arrested after Springfield police responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle crash at Riverside Middle School at approximately 7:21 p.m.

Officers located Davis and the at-fault vehicle upon arrival.

Police said Davis showed numerous signs of impairment during the encounter.

Davis refused to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI-drugs.

Sgt. King of the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, a certified Drug Recognition Expert, performed a DRE evaluation of Davis.

Based on the evaluation results, King recommended obtaining a blood sample from Davis to be sent to the Vermont Forensic Laboratory for toxicology examination.

Davis voluntarily provided the blood sample.

The toxicology report revealed impairing substances in Davis’s blood at the time he was operating the vehicle.

Davis was issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit, on Aug. 12 at 8 a.m. to answer the DUI-drug charge.
