DUXBURY — A 33-year-old Duxbury man was arrested June 27 after allegedly firing a handgun and shouting obscenities before fleeing the scene, police said.

The Duxbury Police Department responded to Depot Street at approximately 5 p.m. for a report of a male party firing a handgun before fleeing in a blue sedan.

Officers found several 9mm casings in the driveway of a home and conducted a preliminary search of the area and an adjacent home to check for the suspect or potential victims.

Witnesses provided information that allowed officers to identify the suspect as Ryan Darville of Duxbury.

A regional BOLO was issued for Darville and his vehicle.

While officers secured the shooting scene, motorists on Route 3A reported a duffel bag and handgun in the roadway.

Officers secured the high capacity 9mm handgun while awaiting Plymouth County BCI to assist with processing evidence.

Darville’s vehicle was later spotted back on Depot Street near the original scene, but he fled again upon seeing officers.

Officers caught up to Darville and conducted a high-risk motor vehicle stop, placing him in custody.

Darville is charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, improper storage of a firearm, OUI liquor and disturbing the peace.

Police said the motive and intended target of the shooting remain under investigation.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred near a busy shopping area.
