WEBSTER — A Worcester man on probation for violent offenses has been arrested on multiple felony charges following an assault at an apartment building on Lake Street.
Robert Banks, 26, of Blackstone River Road, Worcester, was taken into custody June 24 at 2:45 a.m. by Webster police officers Shane Murray and Bryan Blomgren.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred June 17 at 12:08 a.m. at 54 Lake Street, where Webster police responded with assistance from Dudley police to reports of a fight in progress.
Officers Murray, Bryan Blomgren and Joe Stephens from Webster, along with Dudley Officer Byron Lara, responded to investigate the incident.
Police learned the suspect had fled the apartment building in a vehicle before officers arrived.
Two victims told Officer Murray they had been assaulted by an unknown man who was the boyfriend of a third-floor tenant.
A juvenile victim said he had gone to the third floor to ask the tenant and Banks to turn down their music.
Banks opened the door and punched the juvenile in the side of the head before the victim’s father tried to intervene, according to police.
Banks then punched the father multiple times in the head, prompting both victims to retreat toward their apartment.
Banks followed the victims and attempted to force his way into their apartment before they were able to close the door and call 911.
One victim was transported to UMass Webster with injuries.
Officer Murray positively identified Banks with assistance from Southbridge Police Officer Santos and Worcester Superior Court probation officers.
Banks was on superior court probation at the time of the incident.
When arrested, Banks refused to identify himself to police.
Banks faces two counts of assault with intent to commit a felony, two counts of burglary with an assault, and two counts of assault and battery.
Banks was indicted in Worcester in 2020 for kidnapping with a firearm, discharging a firearm, assault and battery with a firearm, armed assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and various other firearms charges.
He served 18 months in the House of Corrections followed by three years of probation for those charges.
Banks is being held on the new charges and for violation of his probation.
