UTICA — The Utica Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has charged a local contractor with grand larceny after he allegedly took $80,000 for repair work that was never performed.
Christopher Owen, 41, of Utica, was charged with grand larceny in the second degree following an investigation that began recently.
Police said Owen received a check for $80,000 in October 2023 from a local business for repair work.
The business had been in contact with Owen for a period of time, and during those conversations Owen continued to promise to begin the work but never showed to perform the services, according to police.
Owen later refused to communicate with the business, prompting the company to contact the Utica Police Department.
Police obtained relevant information and conducted an investigation before determining charges against Owen.
