NORFOLK — A 34-year-old Norfolk man was arrested June 26 on charges stemming from a domestic dispute that occurred the previous evening.

Lucas A. Johnson faces two counts of criminal obstruction of breathing and third-degree assault, according to New York State Police.

Troopers responded to a report of a domestic dispute on South Main Street at approximately 11:15 p.m. June 25.

Investigation determined that Johnson and the victim were involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.

Police said Johnson became agitated and began striking the victim multiple times in various areas of their body.

During the altercation, Johnson threw a knife at the victim, resulting in a non-life-threatening laceration to the hand, according to police.

Johnson also covered the victim’s mouth and nose, restricting their ability to breathe, police said.

He eventually removed his hand but continued to strike the victim, according to the report.

Later, Johnson grabbed the victim by the neck, making it difficult for them to breathe, police said.

The victim managed to escape when a person pulled into the driveway and left the area.

When officers arrived, Johnson refused to answer the door.

Officers eventually forced entry into the residence and arrested Johnson.

He was taken to SP Massena for processing and arraigned in the Town of Norfolk Court.

Johnson was remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail and held in lieu of $1,000 cash bail, a $2,000 secured bond, or a $5,000 partially secured bond.
