WALLKILL — A 52-year-old Massachusetts man died June 27 after his motorcycle was struck by a car on Interstate 84 westbound near mile marker 24.1.
Charles Helmka of Dracut, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at Garnet Health Medical Center in Wallkill after the 8:35 a.m. crash.
New York State Police said Helmka was riding a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound when it was struck by a 2008 Honda Accord operated by Josanne Pottinger-Smith, 53, of Newburgh.
Both vehicles exited the roadway into the median along the south shoulder after the collision.
Pottinger-Smith was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted state police at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
