BREWER — Police arrested a 21-year-old man June 26 after receiving reports that a 14-day-old infant had been assaulted.
Matthew Lane of Brewer was charged with Class C assault and transported to Penobscot County Jail.
Sgt. Caron and officers Rose, Chubbuck and Freeman responded to the incident.
The infant was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police said the child does not appear to have sustained significant injuries.
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services was notified of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
