KENT — A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 84 westbound near mile marker 61.4 in the Town of Kent resulted in one fatality and the closure of westbound lanes for several hours Monday afternoon.

New York State Police responded to the scene at approximately 1:45 p.m. on June 23.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2024 Ram truck, driven by Nodir Umarov, 36, of Brooklyn, was traveling westbound in the right lane when it failed to stop for slowing traffic in a work zone.

The Ram struck the rear of a 2017 Peterbilt tractor-trailer operated by Dragan Pelevic, 34, of St. Petersburg, pushing the Peterbilt forward into a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek driven by Matthew J. Ames, 42, of Sandy Hook.

The Ram also collided with a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Jeffrey W. Armstrong, 68, of Toccoa.

Umarov, the sole occupant of the Ram, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The drivers of the Peterbilt, Subaru Crosstrek, and Nissan Altima reported no injuries.

As a result of the crash, westbound lanes of Interstate 84 were closed and traffic was diverted off at State Route 311 for several hours.

The roadway reopened at 8:22 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
