HAMBURG — A routine traffic stop for crossing a double yellow line led to a multi-jurisdiction vehicle pursuit that ended with two arrests after a crash in Buffalo on June 25.

A Town of Hamburg police officer stopped a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Route 62.

The vehicle initially pulled over but then fled the scene.

The officer informed dispatch and pursued the vehicle, which was later followed into the towns of Eden and Evans.

The Town of Hamburg Police supervisor terminated the pursuit as it reentered the Town of Hamburg.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit was called in to maintain visual contact.

A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the City of Buffalo.

The two occupants, 26-year-old Kaine Hidy and 27-year-old Dontay Mardino, were taken into custody.

Police determined that the vehicle had been stolen from Eden, resulting in appropriate charges being placed against both individuals.
