NORTH ELBA — New York State Police arrested John F. Kimberly, age 46, of Philadelphia, on June 24 after a single-vehicle crash investigation led to several felony charges involving stolen property.
Authorities responded at approximately 11:56 a.m. to a property damage accident on Old Military Road in North Elba.
Police said Kimberly was driving a white 2018 Jeep southeast on Old Military Road when he failed to keep right, crossed into the oncoming lane, and left the roadway, coming to rest off the road.
Lake Placid EMS responded to the scene, but Kimberly declined medical treatment.
A subsequent investigation determined that the Jeep Kimberly was operating had been reported stolen by the Saranac Lake Police Department.
Saranac Lake Police were notified and confirmed the vehicle’s stolen status.
Kimberly was transported to SP Ray Brook for questioning.
While at the police station, Kimberly reported a leg injury from the crash.
Saranac Lake Rescue responded to SP Ray Brook and transported him to Adirondack Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
He was then returned to SP Ray Brook for processing.
Kimberly was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree related to a motor vehicle, four counts of criminal possession of stolen property regarding credit cards, and criminal mischief.
He was arraigned in Town of North Elba Court and remanded to Essex County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or a $10,000 partially secured bond.
