CORTLAND — A 49-year-old Marathon woman was arrested June 18 on charges of welfare fraud and petit larceny following a joint investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and Cortland County Department of Social Services.

Lisa M. McKnight of Mill Street was taken into custody at 1:20 p.m. on an arrest warrant.

Authorities said McKnight failed to provide required income information to the Department of Social Services between Feb. 1 and March 31.

As a result, McKnight received benefits she was not entitled to in excess of $584, according to the sheriff’s office.

McKnight was processed through the Centralized Arraignment Process on June 18 and released on her own recognizance.

She is scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on July 16 at 9 a.m.
