Manchester police arrest teen in connection with May homicide

MANCHESTER — The Manchester Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the May 20 homicide of Jordan Patterson.

At approximately 3:56 a.m. on May 20, officers were dispatched to the area of Irving Street and Woodland Street after receiving a report of a vehicle idling on the roadside with an unresponsive driver.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim, later identified as Jordan Patterson, 24, of Windsor Locks, seated in the driver’s seat.

Officers and emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving measures, but Patterson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An investigation revealed that Patterson had suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso.

Following an investigation by Manchester police detectives, an extraditable arrest warrant was obtained for 16-year-old Zion Smith of Manchester.

Smith was located and taken into custody in Alabama and extradited to Connecticut.

Smith has been charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, carrying a dangerous weapon, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Smith was processed and transported to Hartford Juvenile Detention in accordance with the arrest warrant.

Smith will be arraigned today.
