GREENWICH — On Wednesday, June 25, at approximately 2:02 p.m., the Greenwich Police Department received a Real Time Crime alert regarding an active vehicle pursuit initiated by the New York City Police Department.
The pursuit was related to a robbery involving an off-duty NYPD officer.
The suspects, identified as a male and a female, were driving a black BMW SUV and were traveling northbound on I-95 toward Greenwich.
Multiple Greenwich police units responded and coordinated with NYPD, Harrison Police Department, Stamford Police Department, Connecticut State Police, FBI, and the Westchester County Police Department Aviation Unit.
At approximately 2:12 p.m., the suspect vehicle entered Greenwich.
Officers from the Greenwich Police Department strategically positioned their patrol vehicles to assist incoming NYPD units.
During this time, the suspect vehicle was involved in two motor vehicle crashes within Greenwich on East Putnam Avenue.
Minor injuries were reported at the scene of one accident.
The suspect vehicle was later abandoned in Stamford, near Wire Mill Road.
NYPD and Stamford police advised that the suspects—a Black male and a Black female, both wearing all black—fled on foot into a wooded area about 50 feet from the abandoned vehicle.
Greenwich officers provided support in the coordinated search and apprehension of the suspects along with NYPD, Connecticut State Police, and Stamford police.
At 2:51 p.m., the female suspect was taken into custody in Stamford.
The male suspect was apprehended three minutes later, at 2:54 p.m., in the same area.
NYPD identified the suspects as Jonser Hernandez, 27, and Betsy Bermudez, 27.
Arrest warrants are forthcoming.
