AUBURN — An Auburn police officer arrested a man June 25 while on routine patrol after recognizing him as someone with an outstanding indictment warrant.
The officer observed Donald Clarke walking on Washington Street and made contact with him, arresting him without incident.
Clarke was indicted in January on charges stemming from an October 2024 complaint alleging he repeatedly raped two children under age 15.
The investigation was turned over to the Detective Bureau after the initial complaint.
Following forensic interviews and evidence collection, the case was presented to a Cayuga County Grand Jury.
The grand jury indicted Clarke on sexual conduct against a child (less than 13), a class B felony; four counts of rape in the second degree, class D felonies; criminal sex act in the second degree, a class D felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
Clarke had fled to New York City during the investigation and was believed to have returned to the area recently.
After his arrest, Clarke was transported to the Cayuga County Jail where he was held pending arraignment in Cayuga County Court.
Clarke, 27, lives at 83 Cottage Street in Auburn.
