ALBANY — Two individuals have been charged in connection with weapon and drug possession.
On Wednesday, June 25 around 3:20 p.m., detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Community Response Unit attempted to stop two individuals in regard to an ongoing investigation.
As detectives approached, both individuals fled on E-bikes.
A description was broadcast over police radio, and both individuals were subsequently apprehended in the area of First Street and Quail Street by officers and taken into custody.
18-year-old Enysis Swift of Schenectady was observed with a backpack while fleeing from detectives.
It was later determined that Swift discarded the backpack in an alley way on Quail Street near Third Street.
A search warrant was executed, and a loaded 9mm handgun was located inside the backpack.
Swift was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.
He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court this morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
A 14-year-old male, whose name will not be released due to his age, was found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine at the time of the stop and charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th.
He was released to a parental guardian and will appear at Albany County Probation on a later date.
