ABBOT — A 30-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested following a police chase that ended in Beaver Cove on the night of June 25 after officers deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle.
The incident began at approximately 9 p.m. when the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Monson of a subject taking a friend’s vehicle and driving while intoxicated.
Deputy Pina located the vehicle on Route 15 in Abbot and attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating emergency lights and siren.
The vehicle did not stop and accelerated northbound, driving erratically through Monson and Shirley towards Greenville.
Greenville Police Department officers set up spike strips and deflated the vehicle’s tires as it entered the Greenville area.
The driver continued north, where another Greenville Police unit deployed a second spike strip to puncture the remaining tires.
Despite significant tire damage, the vehicle continued onto Lilly Bay Road and into Beaver Cove, where it ultimately came to a stop.
The driver, identified as Edward Goodwin, 30, of Marshfield, Mass., was taken into custody and transported to Piscataquis County Jail.
Goodwin was charged with eluding a police officer, operating under the influence, driving to endanger, criminal speed, and driving without a license.
