WATERVLIET — Watervliet Police officers responded to a report of a home with an open door on June 18 at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the property owner who stated that the rear door to the residence was open.
Responding officers confirmed the open door and scattered property in the backyard.
Officers confirmed the residence was unoccupied and safe before assisting the homeowner in determining the extent of the break-in.
It was revealed that extensive theft had occurred with the property being completely stripped of plumbing, heating and electrical components.
Multiple other personal items were also reported as stolen.
Neighbors came forward to report that a man had been seen and appeared to be cleaning up the property and mowing the lawn.
Witnesses reported they had seen the man coming from somewhere nearby, helping Watervliet Police detectives to search the area.
During a canvass of the surrounding neighborhood, property matching the items stolen were spotted in a nearby yard.
Surveillance video was obtained and helped police to quickly identify Jesse W. Kacensky as a person of interest.
On June 19, Watervliet Police detectives located and arrested Kacensky.
Watervliet Police charged Kacensky, a 44-year-old Watervliet man, with burglary in the 2nd degree, grand larceny in the 3rd degree, and criminal mischief in the 2nd degree.
Kacensky was arraigned in Watervliet City Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility.
