BRADFORD — Vermont State Police responded to a report of a vehicle stuck on a bridge off a walking trail at the end of Cottage Street near Wrights Avenue on June 25 at approximately 3 p.m.
Investigation revealed that Christopher Shorey, 70, of South Paris, Maine, drove his 2018 Volvo S90 down a narrow walking trail and attempted to drive across a narrow footbridge.
Shorey’s vehicle broke through the wooden bridge and caused extensive damage to the bridge.
The vehicle was partially hanging off the edge of the bridge.
With assistance from Bradford Fire Department, Shorey was helped from the vehicle.
Troopers observed signs of impairment and Shorey made comments about drinking.
Shorey was transported by Upper Valley Ambulance to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for precautionary assessment.
No injuries were reported.
Shorey was issued a citation to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on charges of DUI and negligent operation.
Wards Wrecker Service was contacted to remove Shorey’s vehicle.
Shorey is scheduled to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on Sept. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
