FAIRLEE — A New Hampshire man was arrested on multiple charges during a traffic stop on US Route 5 on June 24.
Christopher Palermo, 48, of Andover, New Hampshire, was taken into custody at approximately 3:44 p.m. after troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks conducted the motor vehicle stop.
During initial contact with the vehicle, a trooper observed Palermo in the back seat and discovered he had two extraditable warrants from New Hampshire.
One warrant was issued by the New Hampshire Parole Board with an original offense of aggravated felonious sexual assault, and the second was a New Hampshire Grand Jury indictment for possession of cocaine.
With assistance from Bradford Police, troopers removed Palermo from the vehicle without incident.
Palermo was taken into custody and transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing.
While in custody, Palermo provided false information about his last name and date of birth to evade identification.
Palermo was transported to Northeast Vermont Regional Hospital for precautionary care, where he resisted arrest before troopers escorted him back to the St. Johnsbury Barracks.
Judge Daniel Richardson ordered Palermo held without bail.
He was transported to the Northeast Regional Correctional Complex and is scheduled to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on June 25 at 12:30 p.m.
Palermo faces charges of fugitive from justice, resisting arrest and providing false information to police.
