Hampton police arrest Manchester teen in Ocean Boulevard shooting

HAMPTON — The Hampton Police Department arrested an 18-year-old Manchester man in connection with a shooting that left three people wounded on Ocean Boulevard Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired near 333 Ocean Boulevard at approximately 8:30 p.m. June 24.

Police found one person suffering from an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound at the scene.

The Seabrook Fire Department treated and transported the victim to an area hospital.

Officers developed a description of a suspect vehicle and issued a “Be On the Look Out” alert to area law enforcement agencies.

New Hampshire State Police later located the suspect vehicle on Route 101 westbound.

Police learned that two additional individuals had self-transported to area hospitals with apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

A suspect was taken into custody following the Route 101 incident and transported to the Hampton Police Department.

Police identified the suspect as Divaris O. Ruiz, 18, of Manchester.

Ruiz was charged with four counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and four counts of first-degree assault with a firearm, all felonies.

A bail commissioner ordered Ruiz held on preventive detention pending arraignment.

Ruiz was transported to the Rockingham County Jail.

Ruiz was arraigned at 11 a.m. June 25 at the 10th Circuit Hampton District Court and ordered held on preventive detention.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. July 2 at the 10th Circuit Hampton District Court.

Road detours were in place during the incident, with traffic returning to normal at approximately 3 a.m.

Police said all individuals related to the incident have been identified and additional charges may be forthcoming.

The incident appears to be isolated with no further threat to the public, according to police.

The motive remains under investigation, but police said the incident does not appear to be random.

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted Hampton police, including New Hampshire State Police, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, and police departments from Portsmouth, Epping, Exeter, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, Rye, Seabrook, Stratham, Newington, New Castle, Kensington, Newton and Greenland.

Hampton Fire and Rescue, Seabrook Fire Department and the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office also provided assistance.
