WESTBOROUGH — A 24-year-old Worcester man died after his motorcycle crashed into a concrete light pole base at a shopping plaza Monday afternoon.
Westborough Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of a motorcycle crash at approximately 12:24 p.m. at the rear driveway of Speedway Plaza, located at 290 Turnpike Road.
First responders found the male operator unresponsive in a grassy area adjacent to the driveway.
Preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling westbound when it left the paved surface and collided with a concrete light-pole base.
The motorcycle came to rest shortly after the collision.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident.
Paramedics from the Westborough Fire Department immediately initiated advanced life-saving measures and transported the operator to UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Despite efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending full notification of next of kin.
The Westborough Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the crash in collaboration with the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
