MEDWAY — A 75-year-old man with dementia who went missing from his Castle Road home was found safe in a wooded area after an extensive search involving multiple police and fire departments.
Tom Egan was reported missing at 11:45 a.m. when a family member called the Medway Police Department.
The Medway Fire Department and Medway Police Department Drone Unit were called to assist after an initial search was unsuccessful.
MetroLEC resources were activated and officers set up a mobile perimeter, including an ATV search along high-tension wires.
Drones immediately searched known hazards including ponds and streams before expanding to other areas.
K9 units from Franklin and Mansfield police departments searched the woods and located several dropped items.
Officers from the Bellingham Police Department searched multiple areas.
MetroLEC Command personnel, Regional Response Search Units, Tactical Bike Patrol Units, Drone Units and K9s conducted a systematic intensive search of the area.
An alert was sent to all area towns.
Units from the Holliston Fire Department assisted with their UTV.
Egan was located in the wooded area behind a Granite Street residence shortly after 2:00 p.m.

Police Chief William H. Kingsbury said the extreme heat made for a difficult search that needed to be executed quickly.
