Man charged with felony DWI on Taconic State Parkway in Milan

MILAN — Troopers from SP Rhinebeck were dispatched to the Taconic State Parkway following a report that a Chevrolet Silverado was unable to maintain its lane while traveling northbound in the Town of Milan on June 21.

Troopers located the vehicle and interviewed the operator and sole occupant, John A. Spiegel, 34, of East Fishkill, New York.

During the interview, troopers observed signs of intoxication.

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which Spiegel failed.

Spiegel was taken into custody and transported to SP Rhinebeck for processing, where he refused to provide a breath sample.

Spiegel was charged with driving while intoxicated with two previous convictions of designated offenses within 10 years, a class D felony.

He was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 1st degree with permanent revocation, a class E felony.

Spiegel faces multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

Spiegel was arraigned in the Town of Milan Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 26 at 12 p.m.
