Man charged with DUI after crashing into guardrail

CRAFTSBURY — A 30-year-old Barton man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after crashing into a guardrail on Vermont Route 16 early Thursday morning.

Kevin Croteau was traveling north on Route 16 at approximately 6:54 a.m. June 19 when he told police he fell asleep at the wheel and struck the guardrail.

The Vermont State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash and found Croteau showed multiple indicators of impairment during their investigation.

Croteau was transported by Hartwick EMS to Copley Hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The Craftsbury Fire Department and Grenier’s Towing also responded to assist at the scene.

Croteau was released on a citation to appear in court on the DUI charge.
