NEWBURY — A 75-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized in stable condition after colliding with a pickup truck Saturday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. Route 5 and Evergreen Drive.
David Bent of Braintree was transported to Cottage Hospital and later to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center following the 12:28 p.m. crash.
The operator of the pickup truck, Andrew Burke, 56, of Andover, Massachusetts, was not injured.
Vermont State Police troopers from the St. Johnsbury barracks responded to the scene after fire and emergency medical services arrived.
Investigation revealed Burke was attempting to make a left turn from U.S. Route 5 onto Evergreen Drive in his 2018 Toyota Tacoma when he was struck by Bent, who was traveling north on U.S. Route 5 on a 1974 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Burke’s vehicle sustained damage to the passenger side, while Bent’s motorcycle suffered major front-end and right-side damage.
Burke was wearing a seat belt, while Bent was not wearing a helmet.
The investigation is ongoing, but speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Weather conditions were clear with dry road conditions at the time of the incident.
