EAST HAVEN — Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Sunday at a Subway restaurant where a suspect’s demand note was simply ignored by the cashier.

The incident took place at the Subway located at 199 Main Street, according to the East Haven Police Department.

Police said the suspect slipped a note to the cashier demanding money.

The cashier read the note, handed it back to the suspect and continued working, refusing to hand over any money.

The confused suspect then tried to open the cash register but failed and decided to leave empty-handed.

No weapons were displayed during the incident, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, wearing gray sweatpants, a black and gray long-sleeved shirt, a dark-colored hat and a face mask.

He was last seen on foot heading through the Stop and Shop parking lot toward Hemingway Avenue.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact the East Haven Police Department.
