82-year-old dies in Patten crash

PATTEN — An 82-year-old man died Saturday morning when his truck was struck after making a U-turn on Route 11, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. on South Patten Road when a GMC truck made a U-turn from a scenic turnout directly in front of an oncoming Dodge truck, preliminary reports show.

The GMC was struck on the driver’s side, killing the male driver.

A minor child who was a passenger in the GMC sustained minor injuries and was released from medical care.

The Dodge truck was carrying two adults and three children, all of whom were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A reconstruction team and investigators from the sheriff’s office investigated the crash.

The Maine Warden Service and the Patten and Sherman fire departments assisted at the scene.
