PELHAM — Police used a remote restraint device for the first time since the department began carrying them during an arrest of a combative suspect on June 20.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Steven’s Road at 6:17 p.m. for reports of an unwanted male on the property.
The male was reported to be under the influence of drugs and had left the property before officers arrived.
Officers located the male in a nearby driveway, where he was intoxicated on drugs and combative.
Pelham Police Officers deployed a BOLA Wrap remote restraint device during the incident.
The BOLA Wrap does not rely on pain compliance, but wraps a Kevlar cord around the suspect, limiting their movement.
The male suspect was taken into custody after the BOLA Wrap deployment and a brief struggle with officers.
Steve Jones, 49, of Pelham, was charged with criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the altercation.
