BOSTON — A 24-year-old Leominster man was arrested on multiple firearm charges Friday evening after Boston police officers recovered a loaded Glock pistol during a stop in Dorchester.

Edwin Gomez was taken into custody at approximately 6:30 p.m. at 230 Columbia Road following a subject stop by officers assigned to District B-3.

Officers were patrolling the area of Devon Street and Columbia Road in response to an earlier traffic stop near 157 Washington Street where one firearm was recovered and the vehicle’s operator fled on foot.

While canvassing the area, officers were told that two males, one matching the suspect description, had been seen exiting 229 Columbia Road and running across the street while clutching his waistband.

The individuals stopped in front of a storefront at 230 Columbia Road.

As officers approached, Gomez appeared hypervigilant and attempted to avoid contact.

When officers exited their vehicle, Gomez separated from the second male and entered the store.

Inside, officers observed him loitering without any intent to make a purchase.

When they attempted to engage him in conversation, he became confrontational and refused to step outside.

Officers initiated a frisk and Gomez attempted to flee but was quickly detained.

During the frisk, officers recovered a Glock 23 firearm from his waistband.

The firearm was equipped with a flashlight-laser attachment and contained a 15-round magazine loaded with 12 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

There was no round chambered at the time of recovery.

Gomez is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of ammunition and resisting arrest.

The firearm recovered from the earlier traffic stop at 157 Washington Street was determined to be a Glock 22 .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol equipped with a magazine capable of holding 15 rounds.

It contained 13 live rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.

Officers have identified the operator who fled from that incident and charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
