BARRINGTON — A 78-year-old Elmira man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after crashing into a telephone pole on East Lake Road on June 19.
David P. Capus was driving when his vehicle struck the pole at 7:53 p.m., according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies who responded to the crash said Capus displayed signs of intoxication.
Capus sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Penn Yan Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.
He was arrested at the hospital and issued a citation to appear in Barrington Town Court at a later date.
Further charges are pending investigation, deputies said.
Penn Yan Fire Department also responded to the scene.
