Sidney man arrested on assault charges after May pepper spray attack

SIDNEY — New York State Police arrested Jason R. Lagano, 37, of Port Crane on June 19 for second-degree assault and weapons charges.

Lagano faces the class D felony of assault in the second degree and misdemeanors of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and unlawful possession of a noxious matter.

On May 8, troopers were notified that a victim was seeking care at UHS Wilson Medical Center for injuries sustained at a residence in Afton.

Troopers learned that the victim had been pepper sprayed and struck with an object which caused fractures to both of the victim’s arms.

Troopers were not able to immediately locate Lagano and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Lagano was located June 19 by the Broome County Sheriff’s Department and turned over to troopers.

Lagano was processed at SP Sidney then turned over to the Chenango County Jail for centralized arraignment where he was released on his own recognizance by a judge.

He is scheduled to appear at Afton Town Court on July 1.
