Man charged with attempted sexual assault of minor in Duxbury

DUXBURY — Vermont State Police have charged a 19-year-old Barre man with attempted sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child following an incident on River Road.

Ian Apfel was accused of committing the crimes against a female victim under age 16 who was not known to him at about 11:45 p.m. April 4.

The Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations at the Berlin Barracks began investigating the reported attempted sexual assault April 5.

Apfel surrendered himself at the Berlin Barracks at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

He was fingerprinted, photographed and issued a citation to appear at Washington Superior Court Criminal Division at 8:30 a.m. June 26 to answer to the charges.

Apfel was released following processing.

Vermont State Police do not release the names of victims of sexual assault or domestic violence.

The affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following Apfel’s arraignment.
