LAWRENCE — State Police responded to a car-versus-tractor trailer collision at approximately 1:45 p.m. June 19 at the intersection of County Route 55 and County Route 54.
The investigation revealed a tan 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, operated by 78-year-old Jerry B. Flanders of Copenhagen, N.Y., was traveling eastbound on County Route 54 when he failed to yield the right of way.
His vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer traveling southbound on County Route 55, operated by John S. Sharpe, 43, of Norfolk, N.Y.
After the vehicles collided, the tractor trailer struck a utility pole, and both vehicles came to a stop in a field on the east shoulder of County Route 55.
Flanders was pronounced deceased on scene.
Sharpe was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
