BELKNAP COUNTY — The Belknap County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement officials.
Scammers are calling residents while claiming to represent the Belknap County Sheriff’s Office or the County Attorney’s Office, according to authorities.
The fraudulent callers are using a warrant scam and making references to Walmart while demanding passport details from victims.
The scammers have specifically mentioned Deputy Peter John and former County Attorney Livernois during the calls.
Sheriff’s officials are advising residents not to provide any personal information to these callers.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that legitimate law enforcement agencies do not request personal information or payments over the phone in this manner.
