Waterbury police arrest man in armed robbery at Highland Avenue deli

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at Sam’s Deli, located at 153 Highland Avenue, on June 14 at approximately 7:47 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect, armed with a handgun, brandished the weapon and demanded the victim empty the cash register.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

No injuries were reported.

An investigation conducted by the Waterbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau identified the suspect as John Teardo, 32, of Waterbury.

Detectives executed two search warrants — one for Teardo’s person and another for his residence at 250 Westwood Avenue.

Teardo was subsequently arrested and charged with Robbery in the First Degree.

He is being held on a $10,000 bond, pending arraignment in court today.
