Plane crash near Beverly airport leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

BEVERLY — Beverly Police and Fire Departments responded to a fatal plane crash near Beverly Regional Airport early Thursday morning.

At approximately 8:46 a.m. June 19, emergency crews responded to reports of a plane crash on Sam Fonzo Drive, just outside the airport.

Upon arrival, crews located a single-engine piston aircraft with significant damage resting against a utility pole.

Two men were inside the plane, a pilot and a passenger, both trapped inside the aircraft.

One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other man was transported via medical helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries.

No ground injuries or additional property damage in the area have been reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will investigate the crash.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office was also notified.

The Danvers Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police provided mutual aid at the scene.
