AUBURN — A 47-year-old woman was arrested June 18 on felony charges related to welfare fraud, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Sasha Binns was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree and misuse of food stamps, all class E felonies.

The arrest stemmed from a joint investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, Cayuga County Department of Social Services Case Integrity Unit and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators determined Binns failed to report income, which resulted in the over-issuance of public benefits, Sheriff Brian Schenck said.

Binns was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by Auburn City Court, where she was later arraigned.

She was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff’s Office and remains incarcerated.
