2-car crash injures 87-year-old man in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY — A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 5 Thursday morning sent an 87-year-old Lyndon man to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:22 a.m. near the Interstate 91 north on-ramp, according to Vermont State Police.

Harry John, 87, of Lyndon, was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry south on Route 5 in the right lane when he attempted to turn onto the I-91 north on-ramp.

Jackson Holderby, 20, of Peacham, was driving a 2023 Kia Forte and had moved into the left lane to pass John’s vehicle.

John turned in front of Holderby’s vehicle, cutting him off, police said.

Holderby’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of John’s Toyota.

John was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

Holderby was wearing a seat belt and reported no injuries.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene.

Road conditions were dry under partly cloudy skies at the time of the crash.

The St. Johnsbury Fire Department and CALEX Ambulance assisted troopers at the scene.
