Worcester man arrested on gun, drug trafficking charges after traffic stop

WORCESTER — A 45-year-old North Brookfield man was arrested early June 18 on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license and drug trafficking following a traffic stop on Lamartine Street.

Worcester Police officers observed Osbert Ventura fail to stop at two stop signs at approximately 3:00 a.m.

Officers pulled over Ventura, who was driving with a passenger.

Both Ventura and the passenger kept reaching around concealed areas and refused multiple requests to keep their hands visible, according to police.

Officers observed a fanny pack around Ventura’s ankle which he was attempting to conceal.

Concerned for their safety, officers ordered both men from the vehicle.

Officers removed the fanny pack from the vehicle and found a semi-automatic firearm and two small containers containing a substance which appeared to be fentanyl.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a number of controlled substances.

The Crime Scene Unit arrived on scene to process the firearm, which was found to be loaded.

The passenger was released after no weapons or contraband were found on him.

Ventura is charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, distribution of a class C substance and trafficking more than 10 grams of fentanyl.
