SOMERSET — Somerset police have arrested a 58-year-old Rhode Island man in connection with a robbery at a local gas station.
James P. Spader of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, was taken into custody at a North Attleboro motel hours after the June 17 incident at the SAV-ON gas station at 1693 G.A.R. Highway.
Police received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 4:06 p.m. reporting an unarmed robbery at the gas station.
The suspect fled on foot with the store’s cash drawer before officers arrived at the scene.
A coordinated investigation led by Detective James Cardella, with assistance from Detective Lieutenant Jason Matos, Detective Sergeant Nicholas Davidson, Detective Donald Cormier, and Patrol Officer Brenen Cardoza, developed evidence identifying Spader as the primary suspect.
With support from Detective Sergeant Diogo Mello of the East Providence Police Department, investigators located Spader and his vehicle at a motel in North Attleboro.
Detectives obtained arrest and search warrants, which were executed with assistance from the North Attleboro Police Department’s Patrol and Detective Divisions.
Spader was taken into custody without incident.
During the search of the motel room, investigators seized a firearm and evidence linking Spader to the robbery.
The North Attleboro Police Department will handle the firearm charges.
Spader was charged with unarmed robbery and larceny from a building.
He was arraigned at Fall River District Court with cash bail set at $1,000.
Spader was unable to post bail and is being held at the Bristol Sheriff’s Regional Jail in New Bedford.
