LEWISTON — Lewiston police arrested a 34-year-old man Tuesday evening in connection with an afternoon shooting on Pine Street.

Police located the suspect vehicle on Elm Street shortly after responding to the shooting incident.

Investigators believed the armed suspect had fled into apartment 25 Elm Street #2.

Lewiston Police immediately secured the area, evacuated bystanders from the building, and conducted a thorough threat assessment.

Given the suspect’s armed status and blatant disregard for public safety, the Lewiston Police Department requested assistance from the Maine State Police Tactical Team.

Lewiston Detectives drafted and obtained a search warrant for the apartment.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., the suspect, identified as Whali Ahamed Henry, surrendered to police without incident.

A search of the apartment was conducted, and evidence related to the shooting was recovered.

Henry has been charged with Reckless Conduct with a Firearm (Class C).

He is currently being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $15,000 bail.
