BOSTON — A 42-year-old Boston man was arrested Tuesday following a drug investigation that yielded more than 1,600 grams of narcotics and nearly $17,000 in cash, police said.
Dante Starks was taken into custody at about 4:40 p.m. in the area of Harvard Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue by officers from the Drug Control Unit of District D-14, according to the Boston Police Department.
Officers conducting surveillance observed an individual on an electric scooter weaving in and out of traffic and making multiple stops to use his phone.
The suspect later stopped near 370 Western Avenue, where he appeared to be scanning a parking lot while looking at his phone.
Police observed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction between the scooter rider and another man near the exit doors of a McDonald’s restaurant.
Officers arrested the second suspect at a nearby Star Market after recovering a plastic bag of crack cocaine.
When officers approached Starks in his vehicle, he attempted to roll up the windows and refused to exit when commanded.
A struggle ensued after officers removed Starks from the vehicle, with the suspect pushing officers and refusing to put his hands behind his back.
The search of Starks and his vehicle yielded approximately 1,061 grams of cocaine, 86 grams of powder cocaine, 125 grams of crack cocaine and 400 grams of crushed Adderall.
Officers also recovered numerous non-prescription pills, a money counter, two digital scales, five cell phones, drug packaging material and $16,966 in cash.
Starks is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court on charges including trafficking of Class B substances, distribution of Class B substances and multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute.
He also faces a charge of resisting arrest.
